Fatu Hiva Pictures

We continue our travel back in time with another photo update. Richard was still with us, and we were exploring the lush mountain landscapes of the Marquesan islands.

This is the Bay of Virgins. How many penises can you count?

We made a wrong turn on the way to the waterfall. It was a good thing, too, because the view was beautiful.

The path up to the waterfall started as a road and got narrower and narrower until it turned into this.

Check out this great little hole in the wall we found. Look carefully.

If you are interested in paravanes then you will see something interesting in this picture with regards to the Nordhavn 43’s rigging. One is we have paravanes out, but we are rigged for dinghy lifting mode. Normally you leave them connected to the winch lines, but then you cannot raise or lower the dinghy without bring the paravanes back in. So we rigged a couple lines to enable us to pull the paravanes in by hand close enough to re-connect them to the winches.  You can see a line on the left (port) side dangling down, that is one of our “paravane pullers”. It is nice to have this option, but so far the anchorages have been much calmer since we left the Marquesas.

  1. I love the waterfall– I can only imagine how relaxing and peaceful the surroundings are.
