Underway!

Saturday, April 28th, 2007

We cast off our lines at 1210. We are now at sea, heading southwest towards Nuka Hiva! Thanks to all that came and wished us bon voyage.

Quick tech details: We are running 1450 rpm at about 6.0 knots on course 192 magnetic. All systems working.

Departure is Saturday April 28th

Wednesday, April 11th, 2007

After much debate we are committing to a departure date and time from San Diego to Nuka Hiva: Saturday, April 28th at noon. Yes, this is a bit later than thought, but we want to make sure we are ready. Weather should still be favorable and we will have plenty of fuel.

On the 20 day passage will be Eric, Christi, and Richard. Richard is a seasoned boater and owner of another Nordhavn 43. We are privileged and pleased to have Richard aboard.

We invite you to visit around 11am to say farewell and bon voyage to the crew of Kosmos. We are at the Kona Kai Marina in the G section (see diagram).

San Diego Departure on Saturday 21st or 28th

Tuesday, April 3rd, 2007

The most common question we ever get is “When do you leave?”. For a long time it was “we have years before we leave”. Then it was “within a year”. Then it became “a few months”. And now  the answer is “we are leaving this month!” It can be tricky to precise, so we are giving two potential dates:

  • Saturday, April 21st @ Noon
  • Saturday, April 28th @ Noon

It would be fun to gather at the dock at 11am to see us off at noon. We are at the Kona Kai Marina in the G section (see diagram).

Ok, yes, we have not been posting much. As is everyone this time of year, we have been busy, and things are going well.

Avalon and Night Runs

Departing October 20, 2006 San Diego, CA arriving October 21, 2006 to Avalon, CA (Catalina Island) and returned October 22, 2006 to San Diego. We left at 11pm Friday night. It is a 12 hour trip to Catalina at Kosmos speed, which is about 6.5 to 7 knots. We had 5 guests with us — Christi’s frined from college, Omar, Christi’s life long friend, Brandie, and Brandie’s husband and oldest two children.

There was no moon and it was quite dark as we headed out. Still in the bay we heard a call on the radio. “Hailing fishing boat passing the sub base”. Hey, we were passing the sub base too. Hey, wait a minute, radar shows we are the only boat passing the sub base. We do look like a fishing boat. We answered and switched to a working channel. (more…)
