We loaded into the golf cart and arrived at the only restaurant that appeared to be open for breakfast, Eagle’s Landing, just as it was opening at 0830. It was in a commercial building next to the grocery store.

The inside had nautical decorations and dark wood trim, making it feel like an old wooden sailboat. Eric ordered a breakfast sandwich made with a johnnycake. We’d thought that johnnycakes were cornmeal fritters, but this looked more like an English muffin. It had a different flavor and texture than an English muffin, though. We think it was made with cornmeal instead of white flour.

Eagle’s Landing had an attached ice cream shop, so Eric and Keith got Ice cream for dessert.

Last night, Eric had been looking at satellite photos of the area. He’d noticed a small harbor on Russell Island that wasn’t on the map or the charts. After breakfast, we took a ride over to where this harbor appeared to be. Eric guessed at which road to turn down.

And he’d guessed correctly!

We parked the cart and walked around. This appeared to be a recently built, planned community. The harbor was clearly man made, and the land around the harbor had been delineated into lots, making it appear that these were intended to be homes with private docks. Like at the wharf in town, some boats were tied directly to the sea wall, and some boats were tied to pilings that had been installed along the wall. While most of the lots were vacant, quite a few had houses on them, and a couple of houses were currently under construction. From the variety, it appeared to be custom built homes, not track housing. Many of the homes were small bungalows with signs indicating they were vacation rentals.

We walked over the ocean side. We noticed that the houses along the bay had a nice view of the anchorage at Meeks Island. Some of them had private docks, too.

Looking west at the anchorage Kosmos was in.

The channel into the harbor looked precarious.

We headed back to town. At this point, we were just tooling around until it as time to return the cart. We saw a bakery, and stopped in.

We bought a guava roll. It looked like a cinnamon roll with cream cheese frosting — and that is exactly what it tasted like. It was yummy, but the only notable guava flavor was from the pieces of guava on top. We’re guessing that in the cinnamon filling they subbed small guava pieces for the typical raisins.

After we returned the cart, we found that there were so many dinghies blocking the exit to the dinghy dock that we couldn’t get Kosmopolitan out. We quickly learned that one of the benefits of fixed docks vs floating docks was that it was possible to go under them, so we managed to get the dinghy out by pushing it under the dock and into the channel.

The wind had picked up significantly. Since we were going with the wind and waves, the dinghy ride back was fine, but if we’d been going the opposite direction, it would have been wet and uncomfortable. As soon as we got to Kosmos, we brought the dinghy up and secured it, then lifted the anchor and headed back to Meeks Island. It was too windy to tow the dinghy.

This time, we went to the west side of Meeks. When we turned the corner, we were surprised to see a trawler fiesta. There were three Nordhavns, two of which that we’d met at the photo shoot. There were also two Selenes, one of which that we’d met in Bight Bay. We dropped anchor in front of the Nordhavn 55 that we’d seen anchored the other day.

We got the dinghy back down. Since we’d skipped school this morning, Christi and Keith stayed onboard to do school while Eric visited the various boats in the anchorage. One of the boats offered to host an impromptu get together that evening. All four sets of Nordhavn owners attended, along with a few other couples. We had a really nice time visiting with everyone.

Sunset

Dawn on Good Friday, April 18, 2025 This morning, we loaded into the dinghy at 0750 and headed to town.
