On the south side, next to the Arts &amp; Industries Museum, was the Smithsonian Castle. It was <a href=\"https:\/\/kosmos.liveflux.net\/blog\/2025\/11\/07\/the-spy-museum-and-the-national-mall-in-washington-dc\/\">also closed <\/a>for renovation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/kosmos.liveflux.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/IMG_8951.jpeg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Across from the castle, on the north side of The Mall, was The Museum of Natural History. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/kosmos.liveflux.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/IMG_8375.jpeg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Next to that was the Museum of American History<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/kosmos.liveflux.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/IMG_8382.jpeg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>We walked on until we got to the Washington Memorial. View from across the street.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/kosmos.liveflux.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/IMG_8383.jpeg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>View from up close. The monument was completed in 1884, and at the time was the tallest building in the world. Apparently, visitors could go inside and take an elevator up to the top, but we had to have tickets. We noted the information on how to get tickets.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/kosmos.liveflux.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/IMG_8388.jpeg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>View of the Lincoln Memorial, which was the last monument on the east end of The Mall. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/kosmos.liveflux.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/IMG_8387.jpeg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The Museum of African American History and Culture, which was just a little bit northwest. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/kosmos.liveflux.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/IMG_8385.jpeg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>We turned around and headed back to the shuttle bus stop, this time taking Independence Avenue instead of walking through The Mall. We thought this building was the Department of Agriculture, but we weren&#8217;t sure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/kosmos.liveflux.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/IMG_8394.jpeg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>We realized the road that ran through the Department of Energy building was the road the <a href=\"https:\/\/kosmos.liveflux.net\/blog\/2025\/10\/29\/the-spy-museum-in-washington-dc\/\">Spy Museum<\/a> was on. Realizing it wasn&#8217;t that long of a walk back to <a href=\"https:\/\/kosmos.liveflux.net\/blog\/2025\/10\/10\/the-wharf-in-washington-dc\/\">the marina<\/a>, we walked back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/kosmos.liveflux.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/IMG_8958.jpeg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>We saw a train going under the bridge. The railroad tracks were barely noticeable between the tall buildings. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/kosmos.liveflux.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/IMG_8404.jpeg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Here was a shot of the group walking on the bridge towards the Spy Museum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/kosmos.liveflux.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/IMG_8400.jpeg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>We got back to the marina at around 1830.
