Christi hurriedly showered, dressed, and packed up the last minute items. We pulled up anchor at 0645 and transited the one mile to the Staniel Cay Marina. The sun rose while we were in transit.

We reached the dock at 0700. No boat had come in to the end-tie, so the dock was clear and all went as planned. Here was Kosmos on her way to Georgetown after dropping Christi off.

Christi started walking the half mile to the airport, and the first golf cart to drive by picked her up. She appreciated not having to do the walk. The airport was tiny.

We’d booked this flight to Ft. Lauderdale, with a connecting flight on Southwest to San Diego. When Christi checked into the flight, she found out that the flight was scheduled to go to a small plane airport in Ft. Lauderdale; it was not the same airport that big commercial planes flew out of. Uh oh.

The plane was also tiny, with only 9 seats.

The flight was beautiful. The water was so clear that Christi could see the sea floor.

The flight was smooth and uneventful. There was a short stop at an island called Chub before proceeding to the final destination. We deplaned directly in front of the Customs and Immigration building, and the officials processed us quickly. There was a taxi waiting outside the Customs and Immigration office, and Christi shared it with another couple who was also on their way to the Ft. Lauderdale airport. She’d been worried about not making it in time for her flight. The taxi ride took about 25-minutes and she made it to the airport in plenty of time.

Due to bad weather, many flights to/from the east coast and midwest had been canceled, causing delays and changes to the rest of the flights around the country. She heard people around her in the airport grumbling about having been trapped for more than 24-hours. Christi’s flight out of Ft. Lauderdale was delayed. It looked like she was going to miss her connecting flight and be stuck in the airport overnight, but by some miracle, Christi’s made the connecting flight and arrived in San Diego on time.

Meanwhile, on Kosmos… Eric went out the pass into the ocean. He said that since it was slack tide and not high tide, he wouldn’t have taken that route it if he hadn’t already done it before and had a track/knew the depths. Since it was slack tide, it was easy to maneuver through the pass. They made it through at 0711, so they were making great time!

In the ocean, they had head seas of three-feet at five-seconds. Eric described it as “on edge of being rough. We dipped the anchor a couple times.” Since the wave period was high enough, Eric and Keith felt a little bit queasy, but didn’t get sick. The forecast said that as the morning progressed, it would shift to beam seas at 9-seconds. As promised, the sea conditions slowly but steadily improved as the day went on.

They ran at 1700-RPM and made great time. They arrived at the anchorage right in front of town and dropped anchor at about 1630. They got the dinghy down and headed to shore.

They stopped by the grocery store, and unsurprisingly, they were out of eggs. They did have some produce, though. They ate at a restaurant we’ve never eaten at before, called Peace and Plenty, that was directly across the street from The Sandpiper. Peace and Plenty had more meal choices than the average Bahamian restaurant and good size portions (good by Bahamian standards, not American standards). The best part was the prices were about the same as all the other restaurants, so it was better value for the money than most of the other restaurants.

After dinner, they headed back to Kosmos for the night. Here was the sunset, which was blocked by a cloud.

On Monday, January 26, the alarm went off at 0545.
