Before doing school, Eric and Keith changed the generator oil and cleaned the sea strainer for the generator. Eric also ran the wing engine. Then Keith and Christi did school. In the afternoon, Keith went tubing with Clean Cup while Eric and Christi went to shore. There were a couple of locals there who were making repairs to the hut, but they left shortly after the group arrived.

When they were done tubing, they joined everyone onshore. Here was another shot of Kosmos with both flopper stoppers out. You can see why we called them “the force field.” No one wanted to anchor too close to us when we had them out!

On Thursday, Christi woke up before dawn. The sky was mostly clear and there was no moon visible. With no light pollution at all, the stars were amazing. It must have rained during the night because the boat was wet.

One of the few boat items that Christi had brought from San Diego was a new water maker sensor. Fortunately, it was small and hardly weighed anything. This morning, while Christi and Keith did school, Eric tried to change the sensor. He was unable to loosen the old sensor to get it out; he needed a size of wrench that he didn’t have onboard and the adjustable wrench didn’t work. But he did changed the pre-filter. He tested it and was relived to find that it was still working via tricking it to make “salty” water.

In the afternoon, Keith went snorkeling with some of the other families. It was a 45-minute fast dinghy ride each way, and Keith said it wasn’t great snorkeling. He said it wasn’t worth the long trip. In good news, the families did catch a couple of lobsters!

In the late afternoon, we all went to the beach to hang out with the other cruisers. Again, the locals were there working on hut repairs. We stayed up late to watch the SpaceX launch. Fortunately, this one didn’t explode. 🙂 As an FYI, when we were talking about “disco balls” we were referring to an anchor light that was flashing.

On Friday, in the wee hours of the morning, a squall came through that brought incredibly hard rain that woke us up. The rain only lasted a few minutes, but we had a hard time falling back to sleep. We were grouchy and irritable all day.

We did our normal routine of school and chores in the morning. In the afternoon, Keith went to shore with the kids. At 1600, the adults, including Eric and Christi, joined the kids. A group of cruisers had set up two more covered areas so that the shade wasn’t limited to only the hut.

The sunset.

The dusk.

The kids were wiped out from their day on the beach, so the kids stayed home and rested in the evening. However, the parents went over to Traveler to play cards.

Dawn on Wednesday, February 18 It was another day of puttering around the boat.
