We’d never put out the flopper stoppers, put on the window covers or got the dinghy down, so we had very little to do to get ready to go this morning. We pulled up anchor about 0630. It was a smooth passage to Blackpoint. We had a current with us and made amazing time, arriving at 1245.

Our friends on Algonquin and a Nordhavn 50 called Grey Goose were in the anchorage. Keith and Eric met them onshore. Christi stayed aboard to attend an online meeting.

They went to Lorraine’s on the road for lunch. Lorraine’s directed them to go to High Tide (the Lorraine’s on the waterfront) instead. After 30-minutes, the server still hadn’t taken their drink orders yet, so they left and went next door to the Yacht Club, instead. Eric had a nice time talking Nordhavns, but Keith was bored. After lunch, they headed back to Kosmos. Eric and Keith did stop by Lorraine’s mom’s for bread on both the way in and the way out, but she wasn’t home either time.

We’ll take a moment to share our opinions: we think the three restaurants in Blackpoint are all very comparable in terms of price, menu selection and quality of food. That said, we’ve decided that the Yacht Club was the overall best restaurant. We thought Lorraine’s had the best food, in part because she cooked the food to order, but the service was the slowest of the three, in part because she cooked food to order. Deshamon’s and Lorraine’s were inconsistent with hours. Emerald Sunset had stable hours and good service, but it was also the most expensive and the food was mediocre. The Yacht Club was reliable, with consistent hours, food, service and middle of the road prices. The biggest downside of the Yacht Club was that cats lived on the premises and sometimes the cat smell was quite strong — and for Christi, that was a big negative.

Christi hadn’t been on dry land since Wednesday and was anxious to go to shore. She and Eric headed to shore as soon as her meeting ended. Here were some of the birds watching them as they approached the dock.

They decided to check out the third market since they hadn’t been to it yet. It was just north of the public dock and was very small, like the one next to Deshamon’s. Christi had brought some cash back from San Diego. Now that we had cash, they went to the bigger market to buy some things that the little markets didn’t have. They also walked by Lorraine’s mom’s again, but she wasn’t outside. Once Christi felt like she’d had enough time on land, they headed back to Kosmos for the night. Looking west at dusk.

And looking east at dusk at the nearly full moon.

On Sunday in the early morning, the anchorage felt almost magical. It was eerily calm, with the surreal, almost fog-like effect that we’d mentioned in Rocky Point, but to a lesser degree.

As the dawn began, the sky lit up with a rainbow of pretty pastel colors.

The other two Nordhavns left this morning. We went back to the Yacht Club for lunch. Instead of going to the public dock, we docked at the Yacht Club. On the way in, we saw a giant ray. We also noticed that there was a sailboat at Lorraine’s dock (the yellow building was Lorraine’s and the blue the Yacht Club). We were fairly certain it was the sailboat that had beached during one of the big windstorms a few weeks ago. We don’t think we’d mentioned it on the blog, but it had been big talk in the cruising community. Per the gossip, the couple had just purchased the boat and were new to boating. The wind blew their boat too close to shore and it fell over on the sand. We hadn’t heard what had happened afterwards, and seeing it at a dock that was really only deep enough for dinghies left us wondering about the rest of the story.

We were relieved to see that the Yacht Club was open. Earlier in the season, they were closed on Sundays, but now that it was peak season, they were opening on Sundays. After lunch, we stopped by Lorraine’s mom’s house. She was not there, which was no surprise. Since she was religious, we were pretty sure she didn’t work on Sundays.

Traveler, Tangent, and another family that we’d made friends with in Hog Cay, Agora, arrived in the anchorage literally as we were dinghing back to Kosmos. Once they were situated, we all met at the Yacht Club for a meal. Another family anchored nearby, Driftwood, came, too.

This was a shot of Lorraine’s High Tide under the nearly full moon, taken from the dinghy as we were leaving. By the way, we’d noticed that the sailboat at Lorraine’s dock was firmly grounded at low tide. We think they probably barely managed to get it in at high tide.

After dinner, we all went to Traveler. The adults played cards. The kids played D & D. It was a fun night.

Dawn on Saturday, February 28 It was still calm in the morning.
