Saturday, May 9 — This morning, the clouds were so thick and dark that it felt ominous out. Eric rinsed down boat and set up the new power cords<\/a>.\u00a0We went to lunch at a Japanese restaurant called Sushi Bear, located about a mile away. We noted that it was in the same shopping center as West Marine. The food was good, and it was good value for the money. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

While we were in the restaurant, Eric\u2019s watch notified him that rain would start in 10-minutes. And it did start exactly in exactly 10-minutes. After we finished eating, his watch said that rain would now stop for the rest of the day. It didn’t stop as promised, but having faith in the weather app, we drove downtown via surface streets. The area we drove through was very pretty, predominately made up of large, older, stately homes. We stopped at a small commercial strip mall so Eric and Keith could get custard at a place called Whit’s Frozen Custard. They both liked their custard. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Christi got some chocolate from Peterbrooke Chocolatier, which was across the street from the custard shop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After finishing up our desserts, we continued on towards downtown. We crossed the river at the bridge over the train track where Kosmos crossed uncomfortably close to the track closing<\/a>, in Kosmos. We were pleased when we found a 15-minute parking spot with no parking fee next to the Museum of Science and Discovery, which was near the bridge on the south side. It was still raining, so we figured we wouldn’t want to be out in the rain more than 15-minutes anyways. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The museum was fenced and there was construction equipment around, making it look like it was about to be torn down. From the museum, it was only steps to the Southbank River Walk. Here was the view looking to the northwest. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We were shocked to see dolphins in the water. We had no idea dolphins lived in freshwater rivers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The public dock. Apparently, we could bring Kosmos here for up to 72 hours for free.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cool statue of what looked like a modern navy soldier. However, the sign commemorated three Revolutionary war heroes that had ties to the Jacksonville area. The sign was not what we were expecting for this statue. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We had essentially jogged down the walkway as far as the statue. We decided that was enough time in the rain, turned around and jogged back to where we parked. We made it back before the 15-minute timer expired. We headed back to the boat. It was cloudy and rainy for the rest of the evening. Even though it wasn’t our most awesome sightseeing adventure, we got off the boat used the car, and saw something new, so we considered it a successful outing.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
