Looking at the pictures, we suspect that the stagnant pools are sinking land with water coming up from underneath, and as the ground around the pools erodes, the pools will eventually become mini-lagoons with good water flow.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kosmos.liveflux.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/07\/manihi-fakarava-001-large.jpg\" title=\"manihi-fakarava-001-large.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/kosmos.liveflux.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/07\/manihi-fakarava-001-large.thumbnail.jpg\" alt=\"manihi-fakarava-001-large.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The moonscape at the end of the mini-lagoon. We now think that it is lava rock. This rock goes a deceptively long way before getting to the ocean.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kosmos.liveflux.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/07\/manihi-fakarava-003-large.jpg\" title=\"manihi-fakarava-003-large.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/kosmos.liveflux.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/07\/manihi-fakarava-003-large.thumbnail.jpg\" alt=\"manihi-fakarava-003-large.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This is taken from the end of the mini-lagoon. You can see how far the mini-lagoon goes before getting to the sandbars. The sandbars are where the main lagoon is.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kosmos.liveflux.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/07\/manihi-fakarava-005-large.jpg\" title=\"manihi-fakarava-005-large.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/kosmos.liveflux.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/07\/manihi-fakarava-005-large.thumbnail.jpg\" alt=\"manihi-fakarava-005-large.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A fish in the mini-lagoon. Does anyone know what this is? We see them all the time diving and snorkeling.
