Well it took a while to find the right engines. We wanted about 2600 extra horsepower to speed up the long passages. We got a pair of 1350 hp jet turbines. They are semi-used, and we got a good deal on them. We converted our port tank from diesel to jet fuel. And to be honest there were quite a few other modifications, but we will spare you the details. The big bummer was losing the salon windows. We had the covers off of the engines for this picture. You only see the port engine, but trust us there is another one on the other side.
Anyway, on to the performance: We are updating our first passage from 20 days to 36 hours. During the trial runs we were able get a reliable 80 knots. We create and impressive wake with the jets going. Overall we are pleased with the install. While it is pretty loud and bumpy, we really enjoy the speed. This slow trawler stuff is for wussies. We are wrapping up the tests, and everything should be complete here on April 1st.
Wouw, what a good idea –
never heard about this things what you have installed..
Now you can fly, but I thought that you are sailor and not a flyer!
Best regards from the 1. of April
MORE POWER! Tim Allen would be proud!
Is that 80 nm/hr????? Did you turn Kosmos into a hydroplane???? Have fun — I really like the idea of more speed! Our 47 is basically a 6 1/2 knot boat at 1800 rpm’s — slower than the sailboat we sold!
Slow and steady wins the race!
what a great idea, first time i saw this.did u install this ur self or have nohavn do it??
