Sunrise was dramatic
It was windier today than it was yesterday, and the anchorage was rockier. We went snorkeling around noon with Oceananigans at the rock near the shore. Here is Oceananigans anchoring their dinghy near the rock, getting ready to jump into the water.
It was a shallow spot. There were interesting rock formations, some fish and coral all around the rock. The southwest corner that you can see above was far and away the best spot on the rock. There were a lot of fish, most colorful. There were a few very large trumpet or eel fish, a big angel fish and a big parrot fish. There were also several colorful starfish. There was quite a bit of coral, mostly a green and white variety that looks like a plant. The water clarity was outstanding. The water was a bit cold, even with shortie wetsuits on.
Here is a shot of us on our way back to Kosmos, with the rock that we snorkeled in the background. Keith’s hair is so long that we have to tie it up so it doesn’t get in his face while he snorkels.
Eric dropped Christi and Keith off, then he and some of the Oceananigans crew snorkeled the other rock island, pictured below. Christi and Keith were too cold to keep going. On the north side, the large rocks were kind of broken up, but on the south side the rocks looked almost like they formed from a lava flow. The island had a steep drop off, becoming very deep very fast. There were some big schools of fish deep under the water.
As the sun was going down
Sunset was also dramatic
