Hiking The Davis Ruins at Warderick Wells, Exuma Islands, The Bahamas

Wednesday, December 24, continued… It wasn’t long before they found a clearing with the remains of a foundation of a building. The sign said “Davis Ruins.”

It looked like it was once a small house and possibly some small outbuildings near the house.

The house probably had an amazing view.

We noticed that the children were tubing and watched them from the great vantage point at the ruins.

After a few minutes of watching, the group continued south along the ridge until they came to another retaining wall, which had a trail down to a beach running alongside it. They followed it down to the water.

After a few minutes of resting on the beach, the majority of the group climbed back up the hill to walk back to the beach where our dinghies were. Christi and Eric did not want to walk that ridge again, so they called Tiki Tour and asked for a pick up. Tiki kindly retrieved Christi and Eric and delivered them to the beach where they’d left Kosmopolitan and where the children were playing in between rounds of tubing. Keith excitedly told Eric and Christi that prior to tubing, one of the boats had attached a line between their mast and dinghy, and the kids were in the water holding on to the rope. The leverage from the dinghy being in gear hoisted the kids out of the water and, once the rope was taut, they’d let go and drop into the water.

Since Keith was happy playing with the other kids, Christi and Eric stayed at the beach and visited with some of the parents who hadn’t gone on the hike. At dinner time, everyone headed back to their respective boats. In the evening, the kids did a candy cane hunt on the beach — like an easter egg hunt, but with candy canes. Eric and Christi didn’t go. It didn’t last long and Keith got bitten up by bugs. This was the sunset.

This was the dusk.
