Means To An End

I pondered how I was going to setup this site.  To be honest, most people zoom right in on the boat aspect of our plan.  It is tempting to focus only on the boat, but I do not want to do that.  Now do not get me wrong, the boat is ultra-cool and a major piece of the puzzle.  I think from as long as I can remember I wanted to have my own ship.  Well I really wanted a space ship, like they had in Star Wars.

What can I say, I played a lot with Star Wars toys as a kid.  I have always liked gadgets, electronics, vehicles and such.  So the ultimate package of goodies, a boat, is an easy thing for me to obsess about and focus on.  It really is a dream come true to upgrade to this kind of boat, and a privilege to have such a nice boat.

But really, the boat is a means to an end.  It will enable us to get from point A to B.  Well, yes, point A to B in an amazingly interesting way.  🙂 We know it will be very satisfying and challenging to navigate from place to place in a fully functional home we can call our own.  And it will all work (hopefully) because we have been diligent, savvy, and prepared.  Yet we sure hope it is not just that.  You see this is about us as people and a lifestyle, not just about a complicated machine.  It is about me and Christi spending time together exploring.  Seeing new things, meeting new people, and sharing quality time people we care about.

Anyway, keep on eye on me.  In the coming months I know the boat will be a big part of the site.  But it should not be the only part of the site and our story.  Ideally the boat will just happen to elegantly integrate into our life.  We shall see.

  1. Hi Guys. I’m currently following the travels of “Oso Blanco”,”DiveAdx”,Knottydog” and “Nexus”. I find them very interesting and I’m looking forward to your,s as well. I’m a truck driver from Canada and travel the lower 48 often. It sure doesn’t compare to the travels you have in mind. So good luck and enjoy your travels.

  2. Hi Raymond, welcome aboard. 🙂 Do you have the website for “Oso Blanco” and “Knottydog”? I added Nexus to our “7. Useful Resources” Page. Good stuff!

  3. Eric and Christy,

Congrats on the new boat! She looks great, even when a bit dirty. We will follow her commissioning with great interest. If we can help in any way please don’t hesitate to write.

Knotty Dog is at http://www.knottydog.com; they are great folks, traveling with a Jack Russell terrier, Ziggie

Osso Blanco is at http://www.osoblanco.info They travel with Bear, their young son.

Both boats, along with Nexus, I believe, are in the Bahamas right now, where we shall be this time next year, we can hardly wait.

    Best regards,

  4. Nancy! We have learned so much from your Duet site. You and Ron have helped and inspired us more than you know. We very much hope one of these days Kosmos will be pulling up next to Duet.

Thanks for the links. I just added Knotty Dog and Oso Blanco to our pages.

  5. Nancy, thank you SO MUCH for all the time and patience you put into explaining all the various things to me. I was lost on the options and you really helped me to “get” what we did and didn’t need and how everything works together. Also, thank you for letting me pick your brain about life on a boat. You have been abundantly helpful.

  6. Hi Christi and Eric,
congratulations and happy sailing with your new NH43 “KOSMOS”. I will follow your ideas and trips.
I crossed the North- and South-Atlantic 5 times with a sailboat SWAN 62 RS named “ALBATROS”. The owner is my friend Manfred Kerstan. Now I will start on April 01, 2006 for the 6th crossing Atlantic from St Marteen via Horta to Mallorca.
I am thinking about a NH 40 or 43 for me while I am retired and will learn a lot from you about your boat. I know the situation on the Atlantic verry much and have a lot of “respects”.
The sailing situation is big different between a sailboat and a motorboat.
My dream is to sail with a sturdy motorboat -and this is the NH- in the Northsea, Baltic and Mediteranee but I will not to cross the Atlantic; I mean, that the NH are comfortable for this adventure, but my wife will not do this with me.
I wish you all the best and “every time a hand water under your keel”.

    Best regards
