Kosmos is about 6 weeks away from being done. We sold our previous boat about a month ago, and because we were selling it, we did not get to use it much in the final few months. We have a issue here: Water withdrawls! Luckliy we found a solution to get us out on the water. Meet our new inflatable dinghy!
We took delivery of it in the morning and we got to buzz and row around Dana Point harbor. It was fun. And here is a picture of Kosmos from the dinghy.
For the technically inclined: We got an Achilles LSI 104 and a Honda 2hp motor from the nice people at Trade Wind Inflatables. We plan to get another dinghy later. There are many kinds of dinghies out there, and we are not quite sure which will be our next one. Our new dinghy is very light (77lbs), and it rolled up to fit in the back of our car. It will eventually go in the lazaratte. The little motor does the job. It will be interesting to race Kosmos against this dinghy and motor, we think they are about the same speed (7 knots). The motor is incredibly light (28lbs) and miserly sips gas. The motor is also air cooled and 4 stroke, making it very easy to operate. The Achilles can take a larger motor and go much faster, but that will come later as well.
We do not have a name for the dinghy yet. We actually like its brand name “Achilles”. It fits into our Greek named boat. Any other thoughts for a Greek name for dinghy?
As we were toured the marina we spotted another new Nordhavn 43, hull 16. Of course went right up to their shiney new boat with our shiney new dinghy. Alas no one was home, but on our return pass they were there. There appears to be an instant kinship with Nordhavn owners, especially when you have the same model. We hit it off right away. We had a wonderful time visiting and we wish we could have stayed longer. The good news is they will be there for a few weeks and we plan to visit them again. We are reminded that this is what is all about, making new friends and sharing.
I suggest Lysistrata. 😉
Hi Eric,
1) do you sail the same route around the world as the NH40 has done it in 2002/03?
2) how is the price per liter or per gallon for gasoil (diesel) in the States and how manny money do you calculate in the different countries?
3) do you have pictures for the cable electric installation behind the shapes, walls etc.?
I am interresting, while I think about a NH40 perhaps NH43 from UK while we have to look to the CE European Regulations / Certifications.
After my sail trip from St Marteen to Mallorca Med. starting this week (Apr.01, 2006) I will spend time to go to NH UK.
Have fun..
Peter (Germany)
Hi Peter,
1) It will be similar, but we will be stopping much more to visit land. The main difference is we cruising more in the South Pacific, starting with the Marquesas islands (French Polynesia) as opposed to Hawaii. We plan to take the Suez and Panama canals.
2) We are preparing for $1 per liter average. Right now it is about $0.75 per liter in the US. We expect to fill up about 9 times.
3) While we do not have pictures, it pretty easy to follow the wires and plumbing by removing various panels. Also there are detailed diagrams that come with the manual. Each Nordhavn comes with a custom made manual for the systems on the boat.
Best wishes on your sailing trip. Let us know how it goes.
Hi Eric,
thanks for the above information. In Germany is the price for gasoil (diesel) around 1.35 USD/ltr. It is more expensive as in the states, good for you.
Perhaps I see a NH now in St Marteen by the end of this week.
The best time is .. ,to plan the boat and see the every day more new installation.
All the best for you and your wife and see you mid may.
Peter
