Adios Pete and Shelley

We started our day with another snorkel in the nice spot near our boat. We think it is one of the best snorkel spots we have been to. There are mooring lines and it appears to be a common spot people go. We finally remembered to bring bread to feed the fish. There were tons of fish around when we jumped in. Once Eric pulled out the bread, he was surrounded by hundreds of small fish, mostly sergeant and butterfly fish, all fighting for food. He held the bread in his hands and the fish came up and ate out of his hand. He could feel them biting on his skin a little as they attacked the bread. Some larger fish began to join the swarm. A large parrotfish came toward Eric, clearly after the bread. Eric dropped the bread. We have watched Parrotfish bite off and crush good size pieces of coral off a coral head. Eric was not about to let something capable of damage bite at his hands.

Christi spent a lot of time watching a school of small yellow fish with thin black stripes. As a wall, they moved from one coral head to the next to feed. It is pretty amazing that they can all swim in unison like that, all seeming to know instinctively which coral head they will all go to next.

It was another great snorkeling trip. We were fascinated by the huge amount of fish, though surprised there weren’t a lot of large fish.

When we were done, we headed back to Kosmos and Shelley and Pete got ready to go back home. Once they were packed up, we headed into town and got lunch at a small restaurant on the edge of the quay behind the outdoor theater. The food was OK. Pete and Christi had raw fish in coconut milk, Shelley had a salad and chocolate crepe, and Eric had Mahi Mahi in vanilla sauce. We were all sad at lunch. Pete and Shelley weren’t ready to go yet, and Eric and Christi weren’t ready for them to go, either. Pete and Shelley are hilarious and a lot of fun to be around. We all get along great and always have so much fun together. We will certainly miss having them around.

After lunch Pete and Shelley boarded the shuttle boat to the airport. We waved goodbye as the shuttle boat pulled out of the quay, then we jumped in the dinghy and headed back to Kosmos. We noticed a new boat had anchored near us. It was a good 100 foot behemoth of a boat.

Back at Kosmos, Christi was back on her fruit eating mission. She made papaya salsa. The salsa is pretty good. One papaya made a very large bowl of salsa, so we will be eating salsa for a while. Since the salsa was a lot of work, we wound up eating salsa on crackers with cream cheese for dinner. Yum.

  1. I still read the exciting adventures of Eric and Christi everyday.

I continue to search for a trawler of may own and I can’t tell you enough what a great motivation your adventures are.

Going sailing (sorry) for the first time this weekend.

Will be thinking of the two of you
