Second Trip to Ensenada Grande on Isla Partida, Day 3

Sunday (January 22) was another rolly morning. First thing in the morning, we coordinated with the other families to go for the big hike. We encouraged everyone to meet onshore ASAP so we could all get a reprieve from the rocking.

We met on the main beach at 1030. It felt good to be on dry land! The older kids took off hiking right away. The adults and younger kids didn’t get moving until after 1100. We’d mentioned that on the day we’d arrived, there was a fourth boat in the anchorage that we didn’t know. It turned out the fourth boat was also a family, and that family joined us on the hike, too.

Probably around 1120, the kids and adults passed one another as the kids were on their way down. Keith reported that they hadn’t gotten as far as we’d gotten last time before they decided they were hot and turned around.

It wasn’t nearly as green now as it had been last time we’d hiked the trail, but there was still plenty of plant life. The first photo was looking back at the beach, and the second photo was taken at the same spot, but looking up the trail.

At one point, one of the men happened to be enjoying the view of the beach below when he saw our dinghy flip over. He watched as the kids ran over and flipped it upright, then collected the things that fell out. He and Eric determined that the kids had everything under control and continued hiking up with the rest of the group. Christi was feeling uneasy, though, so she split off from the group and headed back down to the beach.

When Christi got to the beach, she saw some of the kids were climbing the nearby rocks. They climbed up to a little cave and sat inside. After a while, most of the other kids joined, but Keith stayed back with Christi.

The adults hiked up farther than we had last time, but they didn’t make it all the way to the top of the hill.

After the hike, we all went back to our respective boats for lunch. Here is a photo of all the kids taken before we left the shore.

In good news, the wind had started to die down. When we got back, it was more comfortable onboard than when we’d left. After lunch, Eric and Keith went to another boat for more D&D.

The winds continued to calm down, and by sunset, the anchorage was calm. In the evening, there was another beach social. This photo was taken as we were getting into the dinghy to go to the social.

Two more boats had come in during the day, and they joined us, as well.

It was another spectacular sunset.

The sliver moon was visible once the light was low. The moon set not long after the sun set.
