Thursday, February 5 – In the early morning, Eric moved Kosmos to the anchorage in front of Georgetown (on Great Exuma Island) so they could go to the grocery store. This was the view of the anchorage.

Much to their frustration (but of no surprise), the grocery store was still out of stock on the items that they’d wanted to buy. It reinforced that we’d made the right decision to stock up on groceries in Nassau instead of gambling on being able to find groceries in Georgetown. After the grocery store, they got the dinghy up, raised anchor and did a passage to Thompson Bay on Long Island.

It was rough for a short while as they headed out of Elizabeth Harbour into head seas, but it wasn’t long before they’d changed direction into protected waters. From there on out, it was a calm ride. They anchored where the red dot is on the map — over the S on Tiny’s, which was Eric deemed the best spot to ride out the forecasted west winds that would be coming soon.

Eric and Keith were delighted to see our friends on Blue Heeler were in the anchorage! It was wonderful to see them again after so long. Eric and Keith went over to visit them right away. They played a game, then they all went out to dinner onshore at the only restaurant there, called Tiny’s Hurricane Hole Bar. Here was a photo of Kosmos taken from the dinghy as they were heading to shore.

Tiny’s had an unusual dinghy dock.

They were onshore for the sunset and twilight. The twilight was especially colorful.

The food was good and the service was fast. They all had a great time. Christi was sad that she wasn’t there with them. After dinner, Eric and Keith went back to Kosmos for the night.
On Friday, Blue Heeler came over to Kosmos around lunch time. They all went back to Tiny’s for lunch. This time, there was another group that had ordered before they did and service was slow, even by Bahamian standards. Lunch took a solid two hours. But the food was good!
Eric had been right that this was a great place to ride out the west winds. It was a lovely spot and the cove was calm despite the winds. That said, it wasn’t an ideal location for anchoring in general — the cove had a lot of silt that clogged up the water maker filters, so it was unsuitable for making water. Knowing that he couldn’t make water, Eric was a bit anxious about water usage onboard.
