San Evaristo, Days 3 and 4

Sunrise on Friday, November 11

Our plan was to do our chores, go snorkeling, and then go to shore for dinner. Somehow, the day disappeared. By the time we were ready to go snorkeling, it was so late in the day that it was already time to go to shore! The wind was still strong, and it It was chilly enough that we needed long pants and long sleeves for warmth (as opposed to bug protection, which is why we’d sometimes worn long sleeve or pants on warm/hot days). Here was the sunset, taken from the beach in front of the restaurant.

Sunrise on Saturday November 12

Here is a video of some fish swimming around, taken from Kosmos. The water is amazingly clear.

As we mentioned when we were in Agua Verde, the water temperature has cooled . The water temperature has changed the output of the AC water maker. It is now making better quality water, but more slowly. It now seems to be making 12 gallons an hour, whereas in the warmer water it was making more like 15 – 16 gallons per hour.

With the cooler temperatures, we’re no longer running our air conditioning, so keeping the generator loaded while the water maker runs has become problematic. Today, Eric gave up on loading the generator and ran the DC water maker all day. It made okay quality water. Since today was windy all day and sunny in the afternoon, we made enough electricity to power it.

We also forgot to mention that the screen on the remote control for the water maker has been having issues. At the beginning of the trip, it started giving weird read outs. When we were at Isla San Francisco, the screen issues worsened and was now only displaying partial numbers. The unit itself was fine, but now Eric had to go into the lazaretto to see the numbers, which was inconvenient.

We did finally make it out snorkeling in early afternoon, after the sun came out. As noted in the video taken above, the water clarity today was fantastic. We snorkeled the whole western wall of the nook we’re in, along with the western half of the north wall. Here is a picture of Kosmos in front of the wall that we snorkeled.

The nicest section was the northwest corner. It had by far the most coral and prettiest coral formations. The southwest corner was also pretty nice. In between the two corners, the coral was sparse. We did not see many fish, but the fish that we did see were colorful and interesting to look at. There were a lot of urchins.

We went to shore for dinner.
