On Saturday, Dad went to a marina event, then we went sightseeing around Old Town Norfolk. We came upon this museum called The Meyers House. It had a bunch of information, and I learned that a presidential candidate named Decatur was killed in a duel. If he hadn’t been killed, then Andrew Jackson wouldn’t have won, and America would likely be very different. For dinner we went to a gourmet grilled cheese restaurant. It was soooooo good, and all the ingredients were top notch. The fries in particular were very good. 

Samedi, Papa est allé à un évènement de la Marina, puis nous sommes allés découvrir la vielle ville de Norfolk. On a vu a musée qui s’appelle la Maison de Meyers. Il y avait beacoup d’informations, et j’ai appris que le candidate à la présidentielle qui s’appellait Decatur a été tué dans un duel. Si il n’avait pas été tué, Andrew Jackson n’aurait pas gagné, et Les Etats Unis seraient très différents. Pour le dîner on a mangé à un restaurant de Grilled Cheese raffinés. C’était trop bon, et tous les ingredients etaient de très bonne qualité. Les frites étaient très bonnes. 

On Sunday, we went to a nautical museum where they had an actual battleship that you could tour. We went to the battleship and looked around one of the decks. I got super claustrophobic and hot, so we didn’t tour the entire thing. There are some crazy things in a battleship. There was a dentist, a post office and even a donut factory! After the battleship, we looked at the museum, which was pretty interesting. I learned that the mascot for the naval training academy is a goat! 

Dimanche, nous sommes allés à un musée nautique où il y avait un vrai bateau de combat que tu pouvais visiter. On est donc allé à l’intérieur du bateau de combat, et vu un des pont. J’étais très claustrophobe et j’avais chaud, donc on a pas vu tout le bateau. Il y avait des choses dingues sur le bateau de combat. Il y avait un dentiste, la poste et une usine de donuts. Après le bateau de combat, nous avons visité le musée, qui était plutôt intéressant. J’ai appris que le mascotte pour l’académie navale est une chèvre. 

On Monday, we went to a recreation of what old Jamestown was like back in the colonial days. It was pretty boring most of the time, but I really liked the musket demonstration and the armory. The musket is quite an interesting weapon. Back in Britain the longbow was used more, but the musket was perfect for America. It took about 20 seconds to reload, but a group of musketeers could fire a gun every five seconds! The musketeers carried vials full of gunpowder and a bullet on bandolier, and they filled the gun with the gunpowder and bullet. Muskets work very well against chainmail armor, however they don’t do much about plate. I also learned that a soldier in those times generally carries about 1/3 of their body weight in gear. Any more than that and the marches would be too tiring. These days soldiers wear much heavier equipment, but they have transports to carry them. After Jamestown we ate at a french restaurant.

Lundi, nous sommes allés à une reconstitution de ce que l’ancien Jamestown était à l’époque coloniale. C’était plutôt ennuyant, mais j’ai aimé la démonstration du mousquet et l’armurerie. Le mousquet est une arme très intéressante. En Grande Bretagne l’arc et les flèches étaient le plus utilisé, mais le mousquet était parfait pour l’Amérique. Ça prenait environ 20 seconds pour recharger, mais un groupe de mousquetaire pouvait tirer toutes les 5 secondes! Les mousquetaires avaient des fioles remplies de pourde à canon et des balles en bandoulière, et ils remplissaient leur arme avec la poudre et les balles. Les mousquets étaient très efficace contre la cotte de maille, mais ils pouvaient rien faire contre l’armure de plaque. J’ai aussi appris que les soldats de cette époque portaient environ 1/3 de leur poids du corps en équipement. Plus que ça et les voyages auraient été trop fatiguant. Aujourd’hui les soldats portent des équipements beaucoup plus lourd, mais il y a des transports pour les porter. Après Jamestown nous avons mangé à un restaurant français.

On Tuesday, we had lunch at a Mexican restaurant, but mom’s food had pepper in it. Then we went to pick up my new glasses and then went shopping at Costco. On Wednesday, we went to West Marine and Carvel. Then we went to the boardwalk and took a picture with a really cool statue. After the boardwalk, we went to Miss Roxy’s house and hung out for a while, then we wet to a restaurant on the beach for drinks. After drinks, we went to my mom’s friend’s house and hung out with them for a while. On Thursday we didn’t do much in the morning, but in the afternoon we went to Portsmouth to hang out at a kid boat. I had a good time. On Friday we had lunch at a really good Mexican food restaurant, then we rested for the rest of the day. 

Mardi, nous avons mangé à un restaurant Mexican, mais la nourriture Mexicaine avait du poivres dedans. Après ça nous sommes allés à Costco pour récupérer mes nouvelles lunettes. Mercredi nous sommes allés à West Marina et Carvel, puis allés au boardwalk et fait une photo avec une statue très cool. Après la promenade, nous sommes allés à la maison de Miss Roxy et nous y sommes restés pour un temp, puis nous sommes allés à un restaurant à la plage pour boires un verre. Après ça, nous sommes allés à la maison de l’ami de maman et restés avec eux pendant un moment. Jeudi, on a pas fait becoup de chose le matin, mais l’après midi nous sommes allés à Portsmouth pour voir d’autres enfants matelots. J’ai passé un bon moment. Vendredi nous avons mangé à un très bon restaurant Mexicain, puis nous nous sommes reposés pour le reste de la journée.
