Now it was time for an even longer voyage. How about an international trip taking place mostly at night? Continue reading

First Dock Party and Dana Point Christening

Friday May 12th in Dana Point – There were a lot of people involved making a boat as sophisticated as Kosmos. Dozens and dozens of factory workers that we did not get to meet (well except for three of them — see final construction update post). In addition to all the people at the factory, there are dozens of people in Dana Point. This includes Nordhavn (aka Pacific Asian Enterprises) staff, as well as several of the contractors that helped out. To thank them all we threw a dock party with plenty of food and drinks. Unfortunately, Christi forgot to put out non-alcoholic beverages, but no one complained.

We reminisced that it was over 3 years ago when we started thinking about getting this boat, and 2 years ago we actually signed the paperwork to officially start the process.

Here is a picture of Jeff Leishman, Owner/Chief Designer at PAE, and Eric. Continue reading

Maiden Voyage to Catalina

Thursday May 11th from Dana Point to Catalina to Dana Point Catalina is a great location for boats in Southern California. We had been there with our previous boat. At 35 miles away from Dana Point it took us about 5 hours to get there and 5 hours to get back. This is a nice first trip, not too far, not too close. It gave us a chance test things while underway and get some fun pictures and video. Jeff Merrill, who is our friend, boating mentor, and Nordhavn salesperson, came along to train us.

One thing we got to test right away was Continue reading

Kosmos Delivery Teaser

After almost three years of planning and waiting something has happened…

We took delivery of Kosmos! Woohoo!

We have stories, pictures and video to share. However we do not have the time to share them right now, but we will soon. Training and wrapping up the final things on the Kosmos is consuming all our time.

Some quick updates: We have been spending the night on the boat, it has been great. We had a licensed captain aboard to test us for insurance purposes, and we passed the test. We went to Catalina for our first shake down cruise. During that trip we had around 20 dolphins riding the wave that the front of the boat makes, and 3 tiny little sparrow-like birds that found their way into the pilothouse.

And.. And.. And… Ok, we need to get back to work. More training and more things to organize. As we mentioned before, we are looking forward to be able to truly relax and enjoy Kosmos. Right now it is hectic.
