Playa Santispac, Day 4

Unfortunately, we weren’t feeling any better. Our not feeling good may have been exacerbated by the fact that it was very pitchy and uncomfortable all morning. In good news, the wind began to die down and shift direction in the early afternoon, and by late afternoon, it was calm and pleasant in the anchorage again. Needless to say, with the rough conditions, we weren’t able to go out until the early evening. We went over to the lagoon, which was a little southeast of Armando’s. We landed on the strip of beach that separates the lagoon from the cove. Looking northwest towards the campground.

Playa Santispac, Day 3

On Friday, October 14, we weren’t feeling much better. This time we didn’t emerge until the early evening. We went to shore and had dinner at Ana’s. The nachos were pretty.

Here is Kosmos framed by one of the camping palapas outside of Ana’s.

It was only in the mid-80s, so after dinner, we decided to take advantage of the “cool” weather to take a walk. We followed the dirt road (which probably required a four-wheel drive) north to the peninsula. We were surprised that the road was lined on both sides with plants.

Santa Rosalia to Playa Santispac in Bahia Concepcion

We left for Bahia Concepcion at 0815 on Wednesday, October 12 . The trip took 8.5 hours. The seas were mostly calm and it was a smooth ride.

We are pleased to report that we rolled up 40,0000 miles on this passage! Eric has been onboard for every mile. Christi has been onboard the vast majority of the miles. There were only two major trips that Christi has missed: in 2006, when Eric took Kosmos to Ensenada while Christi drove down in the car and in 2017, when we took Kosmos up to San Francisco Bay for the second time (life was busy for us then and we didn’t have time to blog).

Bahia Concepcion was a large bay with several anchorages, and each anchorage was better in some weather conditions than others. Eric was having a hard time choosing which anchorage to go to because the weather forecast indicated that the wind direction would change often and drastically. No matter where we went, there would be periods of discomfort (unless we constantly moved, which wasn’t going to happen). In the end, he settled on Playa Santispac for a couple of reasons: 1. It offered good protection for the majority of the time and 2. There were a couple of restaurants.

Second Trip to Santa Rosalia, Days 11 – 12

Monday was our usual routine: chores in the morning and a trip to downtown in the afternoon to run some errands and have a late lunch in restaurant.

Eric had equalized the batteries overnight. He started the process right before we went to bed. Then he set an alarm for the middle of the night so he could keep up the process for the recommended 8 hours. In the morning, he changed the primary fuel filter (Racor filter) on the tank that had already finished filtering and started filtering the other tank.
