Trader Joe’s in DC; The Original Pancake House and Trawlerfest in Baltimore, MD

Friday, Sept 26 — When we saw Jeff Merrill, he had invited us to join his panel of cruising experts at the upcoming Trawlerfest in Baltimore. We had already arranged to rent a car at the airport this morning so we could drive to Baltimore. First thing this morning, Eric went to pick it up. He took the free shuttle to the Metro stop, and took the Metro to the airport. Eric was expecting the Metro to be crowded during rush hour on a weekday, but it was pretty quiet. He was a little disconcerted to find that it was quite a long walk from the airport Metro stop to the car rental place.

Our panel wasn’t until 1500, so we took advantage of having a car to do a big grocery store stock up. Eric picked up Christi and Keith from The Wharf and we headed to Trader Joe’s, which was our favorite place to get passage foods. The neighborhood that it was in looked a lot like Baltimore, made up primarily of small, tightly packed row homes. The parking lot was under the building, and we had a hard time finding the entrance. Trader Joe’s customers were required to park in designated spots deep down in the garage. Parking was free for the 1st hour with validation and $11.00 after that, so we were careful to finish our shopping before the fee kicked in.

Much to our surprise, the store was underground, on the same level as the designated parking spots.

Keith’s Perspective on Baltimore and DC Museums and Memorials/Le point de vue de Keith sur les musées et les mémoriaux de Baltimore et Washington DC

This week has been fun. On Saturday, we went to the marina pool.

Cette semaine était amusante. Samedi nous sommes allés à la aupiscine de marina.

On Sunday, we went to Washington DC by car just for the day. We saw a few of the monuments, and they were kind of boring. I learned that The Jefferson Monument is pretty far from the most popular monuments. We didn’t see the whole loop because dad and I were hungry and it was a long walk. After the monuments, we ate at a Shake Shack close to the marina that we’re going to stay in while we’re in DC.

Our Two Weeks in San Diego

Thursday, September 11 — On Thursday, August 27, we left Kosmos at 0400, drove to the car rental center, returned the car and caught the shuttle to the airport. We made it to the airport in plenty of time to clear security and make it to the gate in time to board our 0700 flight. We flew Southwest and had been assigned an early B number for boarding, so we were excited about getting good seats. However, we found out we were flying with the Annapolis water polo team, who took up probably half the seats. When it came time to board, they called active military for early boarding. The team lined up. When we boarded, we managed to snag the very last block of three seats together, in the very last row. Here was a shot of Baltimore from the plane.

Our time in San Diego was busy. Eric and Christi primarily focused on getting life chores done. Christi also spent a lot of time working on her land life project. While we didn’t get to see nearly as many people as we would have preferred, at least we were able to see some loved ones. We also visited a couple of museums and went out to eat several times.

Keith’s Perspective on the Week in San Diego and Virginia/Le point de vue de Keith sur la semaine à San Diego et en Virginie

Dungeon Crawler Carl Cosplayer
Princess Donut Cosplayer

This week has been amazing. On Saturday, we went to Comicon for our last day there. We went to a panel with Matt Diniman and the narrator of Dungeon Crawler Carl, Jeff Hays. After the panel, we went to an event sponsored by Audible. It was at an arcade, and both Matt Diniman and Jeff Hays were there. It had free food and arcade games, as well. We waited in line for two and a half hours before we got in. Matt had to go do something else, but we still got a picture with him as he was leaving. We also got free mugs, and Jeff even signed one of them for me!

Keith’s Perspective on Virginia and The San Diego Comicon/Le point de vue de Keith sur la Virginie et le Comic-Con de San Diego

This week has been so awesome! On Saturday, we went to Stoney’s for lunch, then we had our friends from Bigger Boat over for D&D. After that we went to a Latino festival, then we went to a place called Insomnia Cookies and got dessert. The cookies weren’t anything special.
