Today, at 1715, the editor sent over the completed book. She has requested we make some changes in a few places to help clarify some things. We are hoping to get all the changes made this weekend and send it off to the printer on Monday. We’ll keep you posted.
We’re sorry we’ve been slacking about posting on the blog lately. Eric is busy with work and Christi is consumed with the book. Things are progressing smoothly with the new editor, but we have discovered that editing is a more time consuming process than we had realized. The book is still on track for this month, and once it is done, we’ll try to get the blog caught up to real time.
We also wanted to remind everyone that we are speaking at Trawlerfest on March 7th from 1430 – 1530. And, we have a very fun stunt planned for the Springtime, so stay tuned for it.
Sadly, things did not work out with the editor we selected. Last week we found a new editor, and so far, things are progressing well with her. We are on track to have the book out in February (knock on wood). We have decided on a definite name for the book: “The Unexpected Circumnavigation: Unusual Boat, Unusual People — Part 1: San Diego to Australia”. We’ll keep you posted as things progress.
This is the 700th post on the Kosmos Travel Log! As most readers know, we do not post in real time, so this story is from last year. But wanted to continue sharing our road trip to Yosemite with our friend Cindi.
Sunday, September 27, 2009 – The three of us were up early yesterday to go to Yosemite. The two hour drive up through the Sierra Nevada Mountains was scenic and pretty. When we got to the Yosemite entrance, we were surprised to find out it was volunteer day, and there were a slew of people picking up trash, doing road maintenance, and other similar kinds of tasks in the park.
We were surprised at how long of a drive it was from the entrance to the main village in Yosemite Valley. It probably took at least a half hour. Yosemite National Park is about 760,000 acres, so, as long as the drive was, we still hadn’t driven through even a small fraction of the park. We were also surprised by the amount of traffic on the road.
Here is a view from a hilltop as we are about to ascend into the valley. Cindi and her dog, Sky, are in the photo. One of the things that makes Yosemite special is its unique gigantic rock formations, and in this photo you can see El Capitan to the left and Half Dome to the right. Most of the year there is a stunning waterfall coming over the rocks, too, but at the moment the falls are dry.

We are pleased to announce we will be speaking at the San Diego Trawlerfest on Sunday, March 7, 2010 at 1430 (2:30 pm) in San Diego. We are part of the “afternoon activity session” open to general admission attendees (this means anyone who buys a $15 boat show ticket can see us speak. We are not part of the seminar series that costs extra money).
