La Paz to San Diego and Back Again

Sunrise on Tuesday, December 13

The taxi picked us up at 1000 from the marina. It took us to the airport, which was on the outskirts of town on the southwest side, about a 20 minutes away from Costa Baja. We drove through downtown La Paz, passed the Walmart at the edge of town, and passed a military base before getting to the tiny airport.

Marina Costa Baja, Days 3 – 4

Sunrise and moonset on Sunday December 11, 2022

It was a mellow day. As usual, we spent the morning doing chores. While Christi and Keith were washing Kosmos, a marina employee came by in a small boat and asked if that was our dinghy. When they looked over, they saw our dinghy was floating away! Eric hopped into his boat and they retrieved the dinghy. We are so grateful to him. Had he not seen it and alerted us, the dinghy would have likely smashed up on the rocks.

Marina Costa Baja, Day 2

The simultaneous sunrise and moonset on Saturday December 10, 2022

Since we didn’t have to make water this morning, Eric only ran the generator for an hour and a half to charge the batteries and make enough hot water for showers and dishes. Eric did some chores: changed generator oil and filter, changed water maker filter, and took the oil to the recycling area.

We also defrosted the freezer/refrigerator combo unit in the companionway (hall). All three of our Vitrifigo units tend to ice up quickly and need to be defrosted every two or three months. It is probably worth noting that we have the freezer unit in the salon (living room) turned off since we are low on frozen food and the refrigerator in the galley (kitchen) is still broken.

Yesterday, we’d been pleasantly surprised to find out that the boat tied up in front of us was a family with a child onboard about Keith’s age. In the afternoon, we went to the resort’s beach with them.

Bahia Falsa to Marina Costa Baja

On Friday, December 9, we had another simultaneous dramatic sunrise/moonset

In the early morning, we went over to the other kid boat for a visit. Unfortunately, we couldn’t stay long. We had a reservation for Kosmos at Marina Costa Baja. Due to the extreme tide swings and the strong currents in the channel, we wanted to go in when the tides were favorable.

Playa Pichilingue to Bahia Falsa

While this isn’t the best picture of the moon itself, it shows how much light the full moon was emanating on Thursday, December 8, before the sun rose. It was so bright it was almost like daylight.

Here was the sun rising to the east while the moon was setting in the west.

On the morning La Paz radio net, Eric announced that we’d just arrived and were looking for kid boats. After the net was done, someone called us on the radio and said there were two boats in Bahia Falsa with kids close in age to Keith.
