First Dock Party and Dana Point Christening

Friday May 12th in Dana Point – There were a lot of people involved making a boat as sophisticated as Kosmos. Dozens and dozens of factory workers that we did not get to meet (well except for three of them — see final construction update post). In addition to all the people at the factory, there are dozens of people in Dana Point. This includes Nordhavn (aka Pacific Asian Enterprises) staff, as well as several of the contractors that helped out. To thank them all we threw a dock party with plenty of food and drinks. Unfortunately, Christi forgot to put out non-alcoholic beverages, but no one complained.

We reminisced that it was over 3 years ago when we started thinking about getting this boat, and 2 years ago we actually signed the paperwork to officially start the process.

Kosmos Delivery Teaser

After almost three years of planning and waiting something has happened…

We took delivery of Kosmos! Woohoo!

We have stories, pictures and video to share. However we do not have the time to share them right now, but we will soon. Training and wrapping up the final things on the Kosmos is consuming all our time.

Some quick updates: We have been spending the night on the boat, it has been great. We had a licensed captain aboard to test us for insurance purposes, and we passed the test. We went to Catalina for our first shake down cruise. During that trip we had around 20 dolphins riding the wave that the front of the boat makes, and 3 tiny little sparrow-like birds that found their way into the pilothouse.

And.. And.. And… Ok, we need to get back to work. More training and more things to organize. As we mentioned before, we are looking forward to be able to truly relax and enjoy Kosmos. Right now it is hectic.

The Pre-Kosmos Blog Calm

Blog calm = very busy Christi and Eric.

Kosmos is close to being done. We do not like to write about detailed future plans here on the blog, but you can be sure we will report when we take delivery. Also we do not want to jinx anything by prognosticating on dates.

Suffice to say, we are very excited. A long term dream is reaching a turning point. We will soon have a new home, which happens to be a boat. There is enormous responsibility having a boat like this. It feels a little overwhelming right now. We are not there yet, but we look forward to being able to relax with friends and family aboard Kosmos. We know it will take a little while.

In the meantime many things dance in our heads: Continue reading

Dana Dinghy Day & New Friends

Kosmos is about 6 weeks away from being done. We sold our previous boat about a month ago, and because we were selling it, we did not get to use it much in the final few months. We have a issue here: Water withdrawls! Luckliy we found a solution to get us out on the water. Meet our new inflatable dinghy!

We took delivery of it in the morning and we got to buzz and row around Dana Point harbor. It was fun. And here is a picture of Kosmos from the dinghy. Continue reading
